SUMMARY:New York Cares Coat Drive
DESCRIPTION:What if you couldn’t get to work\, pick up your prescriptions from the pharmacy\, or send your child to school this winter? All because you didn’t have a decent coat to wear. This is the reality for many New Yorkers right now. \nFor the last 31 years\, New York Cares has channeled the generosity of our city into our annual Coat Drive. Last year we distributed our two millionth coat\, and this year our goal is to collect 100\,000 new or gently used coats for social service agencies\, public schools\, transitional housing shelters\, and more. \nAnsche Chesed is proud to serve as a drop off location for New York Cares Coat Drive this winter. \nCoats can be dropped off at the Ansche Chesed lobby when the building is open. \nThe New York Cares Coat Drive only accepts new or gently used coats.

SUMMARY:Postcard Writing for Syrian Refugees
DESCRIPTION:Now in its eighth year\, the Syrian crisis has left more than 500\,000 dead. There are 5.6 million Syrian refugees registered in neighboring countries; and 6.6 million internally displaced people. \nOne of the most brutal aspects of the crisis has been the deliberate targeting of the medical infrastructure — the bombing of hospitals and killing of doctors. The disruption of Syria’s healthcare system has had disastrous impact on the most vulnerable members of the population — women and young children. \nCome join other Ansche Chesed members as we write postcards which will be delivered along with relief supplies to Syrians at hospitals as well as refugee camps. \nThe Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA) is the nation’s leading interfaith response to the Syrian refugee crisis. In just two years\, MFA has shipped more than $125 million in relief supplies including medicines\, hospital equipment\, food\, clothing\, and other supplies to those in desperate need inside Syria and in neighboring refugee camps.
