AC Salon with Dan Lenchner: A Photographic VIew of Life In Israel

While we can't be together in person, that does not mean that we can not learn from each other. Dan Lenchner is an Israeli born photographer and collector of vintage images.  He recently spent five weeks in Israel during which time the country first began to experience the coronavirus, was engaged with its third election in one year, and celebrated Purim. During the salon he will talk about images he made in this period which reflect these three events as…

Weekday Morning Minyan

Anyone who has ever visited Ansche Chesed’s morning minyan will tell you that it is something very special. Meeting in the chapel on the ground floor, the minyan brings together all segments of Ansche Chesed’s diverse community. They gather to say Kaddish for loved ones, to comfort others in mourning, to celebrate simchahs (joyous occasions) and to ground themselves before starting their day. The service is brisk and allows for a more meditative and personal approach than the more formal Shabbat service…

Breathe, Stretch and Sing with Cantor Natasha

Cantor Hirschhorn will guide the participants through a series of gentle body and voice warm up exercises to release tension, and improve and strengthen our breathing (always a good idea, but especially now!) We will then sing some familiar and new melodies to uplift our spirits and connect us to our tradition and our community. Due to the constraints of Zoom, during the group singing…

Subtitles and Subtleties: TV Schmooze Club

Join Rabbi Yael for a "Schmooze Club" about some of our favorite Israeli and Jewish TV shows Unorthodox, Shtisel, and Srugim - all of which portray Orthodox Judaism in complex, nuanced ways. What can we learn from these portrayals about Jewish and/or Israeli culture, diverse religious practice, and our own relationship to religious tradition and community? Watching the TV shows ahead of time is suggested, though not required. I will share select clips during "Schmooze Club." Unorthodox and Shtisel are available on Netflix. Srugim…
