Scribblers on the Roof
Monday evenings (with a few Sundays scheduled this year), from 8 to 10pm. $5 suggested contribution. Join us on the Ansche Chesed roof to hear emerging and established Jewish writers read from their recent work. Beverages and books are available for purchase. If it rains, come anyway. As the spring winds down and the summer beckons, we always like to honor those in the community who are graduating from their various schools, completing their courses of study, or otherwise moving on. We will call all of you in a group to the 4th aliyah (which we will reach not before 10:45am, for those of you keeping count). The New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC is an interfaith network of congregations, organizations, and individuals, standing publicly in solidarity with families and communities resisting detention and deportation in order to stay together. One of its major projects is the Accompaniment Program which has provided support to hundreds, if not thousands, of immigrants facing deportation or detention. In honor of the Congregation trip to Poland, our Friday night davening and oneg will come with a Polish flavor. The Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv prayers will be led by a Warsaw born vocalist Channah Silverman, who is a Cantorial Student at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Channah frequently davens at Ansche Chased's morning minyan and Shabbat services, and her singing is enriched by her training in classical opera and jazz. Signaling our commitment to LGBTQ equality, we will be flying a rainbow flag during June for Pride Month. Please join us in the sanctuary on Shabbat June 24, the weekend of the Pride parade, as a member of our community, Seth Marnin will give the Dvar Torah. Communal Davening and Kiddush
Please join us on Shabbat of Labor Day weekend for communal davening and kiddush. All food should be dairy or pareve. If your last name begins with A-I, please bring an appetizer. If your last name begins with J-Q, please bring a salad. If your last name begins with R-Z, please bring a dessert. Those who cannot contribute food may make a donation to the kiddush fund.
