Ansche Chesed, our “Community of Kindness,” has an admirable history of kindness to the deceased, enacted through our Hevra Kadisha, the “Holy Society” of people who volunteer to wash and prepare people’s bodies for burial. Surely, this is not the easiest mitzvah to perform, but it is one of the noblest.
Now, our Hevra Kadisha needs an infusion of new volunteers – especially men, but women are encouraged to come out as well. Would you consider being part of this special community of mitzvah-doers?
Please join Rabbi Kalmanofsky and members of the men’s and women’s Hevra Kadisha on Sunday, February 26 at 10am in the Chapel to learn about this critical mitzvah. We will discuss ways in which you might be able to serve and what time commitment would be right for you. There will also be bagels and coffee to celebrate those who have done this work in the past.
Feel free to contact Rabbi Kalmanofsky with questions before the meeting, or if you cannot make the in-person session.
