Israel is in the midst of its election season. We are already planning for the day after.
What is the path forward for Israeli democracy? What issues will define the struggle for equality and democracy in Israel in the new Knesset?
As Israelis makes sense of election results this April, join NIF for a conversation on its implications and a look at the path ahead with Mikhael Manekin, Director of The Alliance for Israel’s Future and our own Michal Sella, Director of the Shatil Center for Policy Change, NIF’s action arm in Israel.
Mikhael Manekin is an Israeli-American orthodox activist based in Jerusalem. He serves as the Israel Director of The Alliance for Israel’s Future, a consortium of donors and organizations focused on building new, progressive political leadership in Israel. Through the Alliance, Mikhael established the Shutafut fellowship, a yearlong fellowship for up-and-coming progressive leaders from diverse backgrounds to deepen political analysis and skills. Shutafut is rapidly becoming a catalyst for political change on the municipal and national levels.
Michal Sella is the director of Shatil’s Center for Policy Change, which works to develop and disseminate skills and strategies for social change in Israel. Previously, Michal was the development manager of The Whistle, the Israeli fact-checking organization; a parliamentary advisor at the Knesset; a journalist and co-editor at Channel 2; and a pedagogical coordinator at Hashomer Hatzair youth movement.
Part of NIF’s 2019 Big Ideas Series: Meet Israelis who are thinking big about our biggest challenges. The thinkers and doers hatching big ideas for the future. They are putting their minds and their skills to work for a vibrant and democratic future — and doing so in bold and unexpected ways.
