Jews spend LOTS of hours — especially during Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur — reciting ancient prayers. Maybe during those long hours you wonder what you’re doing. Does God hear? Or exist? Might some other activity be more useful?
During the month of Elul, as Rosh HaShanah approaches, please join AC’s clergy to explore how we can make our prayer meaningful. Be not afraid! No honest question or proposed answer is out of bounds. Yael, Natasha and Jeremy will facilitate conversations among us, and will share what works for them. All sessions will meet at 7:30 on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings of Elul.
This Talmudic phrase became a watch word of Hasidic spirituality, vividly expressing that prayer is impossible without opening up wellsprings of religious emotion and devotion. Is that a skill contemporary people can learn? What obstacles might trip us up along the way? What mind-set or exercises might make this smoother?
