Tikkun Leyl Shavuot

Sat, June 11, 2016 at 7:15 pm9:00 pm

Please join us this year once again for an early evening study session at the JCC, in advance of the major event of study, arts presentations and socializing that has become a signature part of New York Jewish life.
We’ll gather at 7:15pm on Saturday evening at the JCC, 76th and Amsterdam, for a bite to eat, and to hear great presentations by Rabbi Bill Plevan, Solomon Mowshowitz, Hazzan Natasha Hirschhorn and Rabbi Yael Hammerman.
“Kissing in Schul” with Solomon Mowshowitz
Prayer beyond words: Kissing, bowing, jumping, pentateuch pinky pointing and other synagogue choreography.
Seeing the Voices, Singing the Vision with Hazzan Natasha Hirschhorn
Abraham Joshua Heschel described music as the only language compatible with the wonder and mystery of being. Tonight we’ll explore the wonder and mystery of Revelation’s mixed metaphor of “seeing the voices” on a meditative journey through sound and silence.
What’s Land Got To Do With It? with Rabbi Bill Plevan
In this session we will consider why the laws of the sabbatical year and jubilee year are specially connected to the revelation on Mount Sinai.
Everyday Revelations with Rabbi Yael Hammerman
On Shavuot, we focus on “The Revelation” at Mount Sinai. However, philosophers across spiritual traditions teach that revelation can be on-going and continuous in our lives. Using parenting as a prism, we will delve into the depths of “every-day revelations,” as we open our eyes and ears to the master teachers of “radical amazement” – the children in our homes, our hallways and our hearts.
