Join us for a FREE light dairy dinner followed by our annual Torah Unroll, dancing and Hakafot with the rest of the AC Community.

Erev Simchat Torah Service and Celebration: 6:45pm Ma’ariv in the Mayer Cavalier Chapel, 7pm Hakafot in Hirsch Hall
Come celebrate the Torah with singing, dancing, and hakafot (circling)!

Simchat Torah: Friday, October 25

Morning Service (Sanctuary and Minyan M’at): 9:45am on the Roof, with each minyan holding its own Torah reading
The singing and dancing continue as we finish reading the Torah and begin reading it all over again.


Communal Sukkah Use

All are welcome to come eat in our Sukkah – no registration required! Click here for the full Sukkah Schedule.

  • Meals in the Sukkah must conform to AC’s kashrut policy: Only dairy or parve foods prepared in a kosher kitchen or packaged kosher products are permitted. No meat is allowed in the sukkah.
  • Both the Rooftop Sukkah and the 5th Floor Sukkah are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (between 8am to 10pm, unless otherwise noted on the schedule)
  • The Sukkah is closed for cleaning between 2-3pm during Hol HaMoed
  • AC provides paper goods, coffee and tea – no other beverages are provided
  • Please note that even on nights where there are Minyan or other dinners, the Sukkah is still open to the public

Sukkah Decorating Party

Sunday, October 13 from 10am – 12pm in the Rooftop Sukkah

Join us on the roof to help decorate and beautify our Sukkah!

We’ll bring the art supplies, doughnuts and apple cider, you bring the Sukkot simcha – joy!

Geared at kids ages 3-10. Teens welcome to volunteer!

Boker Tov Tots in the Sukkah

Saturday, October 19 from 10:15am – 10:50am in the Rooftop Sukkah

Babies, tots, preschool kids and their families are invited to join us for breakfast in the Sukkah before the Mishpacha service on the second floor. We’ll provide the food. Kids can eat and play, and parents will have time to schmooze and get to know one another.

Registration by Wednesday, October 16 at noon encouraged for our planning, but not required. Walk-ins welcome!

Fall Foliage Sukkot Hike, with Stewart Pravda & Rabbi Yael

Sunday, October 20 from 8:30am to around 2:30pm
Sterling Lake Loop (near Sloatsburg, NY, off Route 84)

What better way to spend Sunday of Chol Hamoed Sukkot than hiking upstate, amid gorgeous fall foliage, with old and new Ansche Chesed friends? Join Rabbi Yael and AC member Stewart Pravda, on an easy hike, about 4 miles/2.5 hours long.

We’ll see water views, fall foliage, an old mine and other sites along the way.

Location: Begin at Sterling Forest Visitor Center (near Sloatsburg, NY, off Route 84). Trail: Sterling Lake Loop (4.3 miles)

Open to children 8+ and adults of all ages!

Intergenerational Mitzvah Knitting Group in the Sukkah

Sunday, October 20 from 10 – 11:30am in the Rooftop Sukkah

Knitters needed! Experienced and new knitters of all ages welcome: bubbies, bring your grandkids; kids – bring your parents.

For our current project, we will be making a sampler blanket, where we each do a square or two and then put them together into a blanket. Each square is a different pattern so you’ll be able to make more than one! Yarn and pattern will be provided. Please RSVP by emailing Emily.

Teen Sushi Making in the Sukkah

Sunday, October 20 from 6 – 7:15pm in the 5th Floor Patio Sukkah

Calling all teens! Come join us on Sukkot to make delicious Sushi in the Sukkah, play games and hang out with your friends. Can’t wait to see you there! (Please note, this event will take place in the sukkah on the 5th floor.)

Family Sundaes and Ushpizin in the Sukkah

Monday, October 21 from 4 – 5:30pm in the Rooftop Sukkah

On Sukkot, it’s a tradition to welcome new people into the Sukkah each day. So, bring a friend to AC and join us on the rooftop Sukkah. We’ll make ice cream sundaes and sukkah decorations inspired by the tradition of welcoming ushpizin (guests) into our sukkah. We look forward to welcoming you and your ushpizin!

Lunch and Learn: Why is That in the Bible?

Tuesday, October 22 at 12:30 – 1:30pm in the Rooftop Sukkah

Working remotely? Retired? Stay-at-home parents? Taking a day off?

Please join Rabbi Kalmanofsky for a monthly lunch-and-learn program to study some of the stranger passages in the Hebrew Bible. You’ll meet giants and sea monsters, psychedelic visionaries and stone-cold killers. We’ll retell the Torah’s dirty jokes, sexy poems and gruesome horror stories. Some of this material will raise important religious or moral questions. Most will be fun and funny.

Bring your lunch, according to the AC Kashrut policy, and we will provide cookies and drinks.

18th Annual Sukkot Sing-Along

Tuesday, October 22 at 7pm in the Rooftop Sukkah

Join Hazzan Natasha Hirschhorn, Shirei Chesed Chorus singers and guest musicians for our Annual Sukkot Sing-Along. We will pick the most beautiful and fun Jewish folk songs from Israel and beyond to sing the night away!
